Atnip Stables

Horse

Some 50 years ago, Dale Atnip opened the Center Hill Stables on Highway 146 in Smithville, Tennessee. Starting with only a few, Dale knew the importance of having good bloodlines, natural gait and endurance to improve the Tennessee Walking Horse. He gradually improved his brood stock and started the show circuit while trying to raise a large family.
The tradition then passed on to Dale’s two sons, Charles and John, who enjoyed working with the horses.

The person possessing Dale’s true love for the Tennessee Walking Horse is his grandson, Ricky. Ricky and his wife, Lisa, were married in 1990 and considered opening their own stables shortly thereafter. They, along with Ricky’s father and mother, Charles and Betty, own some 85 Tennessee Walking Horses. They currently operate The Atnip Stables and Breeding Facility at 2290 Banks Pisgah Road in Smithville.

While their ultimate goal is to raise top show horses, the Atnip’s realize that not all top horses are destined for a show career. Therefore, they have colts of color and pleasure as well. As a result, price ranges vary for all types of customers visiting their stable.

The Atnip tradition continues today with honesty, loyalty and appreciation to our customers of the past, present, and well into the future. We offer you top breed and quality Tennessee Walking Horses. We specialize in weanlings, yearlings and top bred brood mares.
